Largely dependent on climate and supply, we work closely with local suppliers and those abroad to ensure we reduce our impact. While we’d love to source all our heroic plant-based ingredients from Australia, the relationships we have cultivated have enabled us to utilise 11 incredible ingredients in our plant-based hair care products all year round.

What are plant-based ingredients?
The name pretty much gives it away, but any ingredient that has been derived from a plant is concerned plant-based.
And there’s good reason to use these plant-based elements, as some of the best ingredients for hair are found in nature. First and foremost, our products are vegan-friendly and choose cruelty-free accredited. If you’re after vegan shampoo and conditioner, My Soda is where you’ll find it.
It also allows us to get super creative with our fragrances. While we’re not about to disclose our trade secrets, we can tell you that our fresh and fruity top notes will instantly transport you to a virtual tropical island!

Other Ingredients We Include In Our Products
My Soda’s gentle plant-based formula consists of a heavenly combination of naturally-derived ingredients and botanical actives for beautifully soft, healthy-looking hair. That being said, not every element can be plant-based. Sometimes, cosmetic science is the way to go, so we’ve thought it best to explain some of the other ingredients we include in our products.
Silicones
Silicone isn’t a toxic chemical and is safe to apply to your hair. We use this in our products as it's one of the most effective ingredients for taming frizz, locking in moisture, and adding shine. Silicones are an effective hair softener, and because they are non-toxic to plants, they’re also greywater safe.
Preservatives
We include preservatives in our products to avoid bacterial and fungal contamination. The growth of these microbes may lead to spoilage of the product, but, more importantly, it may expose the user to potential infections, especially those with compromised immune systems. The preservatives we use are included in functional and purposeful amounts.
We only use preservatives that have been assessed and approved for use in Cosmetic and Personal Care products, following TGA/EU Cosmetic Directive guidelines. We regularly review our preservatives to ensure that any available information is considered and that we are using the most appropriate preservatives available for our products.
Sodium Benzoate
Sodium Benzoate is a preservative that stops bacteria and mould from growing in products. There is no need to be concerned about this ingredient as you will find many cosmetics contain this, and it is approved for use in rinse-off and leave-on cosmetics.
Low sodium levels and undetectable phosphates in our products make it grey water safe. Our products are biodegradable and plant-based.
Sodium coco-sulphate (contains SLS)
Our products contain sodium coco sulphate, which is derived from Coconut Oil and includes some SLS. This ingredient is approved for use in personal care products and is commonly used in shampoo to enhance the cleansing effect of the hair, where oil and dirt build-up is common.
